This cat is unusual because she’s ginger but female. It’s all a matter of genetics; 80% of ginger cats are male, so she is pretty unique in real life and in character….
The Model
She was called Mackerel and lived in my brother’s house where all the cats have names of types of fish. They’ve had lots of cats over the years, Haddock, Turbot, Pinger, Mullet…Mackerel is now sadly departed and they currently share their home with Flounder and Skate.
The Hair
This is one of our simpler character designs. The folds in the dress and the hair took the longest time to draw, especially as the hair is so long each individual hair required a long brush stroke, so was slower to draw than a shorter style.
